The Beer-Lambert Law is the linear relationship between absorbance and concentration of an absorbing species. In molecular biology, this is vital for determining the concentration of purified DNA, RNA, or protein samples using spectrophotometry.

Variables: Absorbance (A) is a unitless measure of the amount of light absorbed. The molar extinction coefficient (Ξ΅) is a constant specific to the molecule being measured (e.g., proteins or nucleotides). The path length (l) is typically 1 cm for standard cuvettes.
